LC FireFit team excited to compete at world championships

Lambton College's FireFit team is looking to put an exclamation point on a highly successful season as it heads out to Calgary for the FireFit Worlds and National Championships.

The eight member Lions team, all of whom are newcomers, have won hardware in each of their first four competitions this season while putting themselves in a strong position to medal once again.

Head Coach Sue Patrick said the cohesiveness and confidence among the group is at a high point.

"I think the experience will be really big for them, we have five returning for next year," said Patrick. "So, we're really looking this year at just building that confidence. Having the opportunity to compete against these full time firefighters, we're very fortunate that we're included in this event being a college. That makes it a little more exciting for the students. They want to be firefighters some day and it is a great opportunity for networking and meeting people that can potentially help them get ready with resumes and things like that."

Through four events this season, Lambton's FireFit team has captured seven gold medals, five silvers, and five bronze in addition to Lucas Bork's two top rookie finishes.

Byanungu Ngakira, Brandon Stewart, Nick Gutierrez, Stewart Walsh, Brandon Lyons, Grace Brousseau and Alyssa Zirul round out the squad. Shane Bettridge has also played a key part as assistant coach.

The world competition is set to take place from September 7 to 11 at Spruce Meadows.

Lambton College will host the 2023 FireFit Worlds & National Championships from September 13 to 17, 2023.
