Errol, Indian Rd. intersection to reopen soon

School buses will be able to enter Errol Road Public School without construction delays next week as the intersection is expected to fully reopen to traffic ahead of the weekend.

The intersection of Errol Road and Indian Road was closed during the summer months to install permanent concrete bump outs.

City of Sarnia Communications Manager Steve Henschel said the goal is to reopen the intersection by the end of the day Friday, around 5 p.m. or so.

"It went well. The project included a reduction of lanes approaching the intersection and adding some left-hand turn lanes on the north and south approach," said Henschel.

"They're just working on the traffic signals and the painting for the intersection now and some landscaping, just some finishing touches."

Henschel said other improvements on Indian Road are expected to proceed next year as part of phase two of the project.

"Phase two includes the addition of bike lanes and dedicated parking lanes beyond Cathcart Boulevard up to Lakeshore Road on Indian Road, and that also includes the installation of the roundabout at the Cathcart/ Indian intersection."

City council approved the mini-roundabout during a meeting on January 17. The retrofit may cost between $450,000 and $650,000, depending on the final design.
