Sarnia highlights new rec programming

The City of Sarnia is highlighting new fall programs as it returns to a full recreational program lineup in September.

Recreation Superintendent Shelley Kern said magic lessons, jam sessions, core conditioning and beginner woodworking craft are being added to the list of established programs.

"The magic lessons are brand new," said Kern. "We have an instructor that came forward. He has taught in the past and he wanted to share his talents. So, he is going to show some basic magic tricks and give people hands-on information in a short course format."

Kern is excited about what is planned.

"Registration will be starting Wednesday, August 31. These programs we have for adults. For example, we would have yoga, build your bones, pickleball, lessons even in pickleball. House leagues for badminton and volleyball.  So, we're trying to capture a lot of different sports and a lot of different interest levels."

Kern said there is really something for everyone.

"Different hobbies and interests, such as meditation, shuffleboard, carpet bowling, card making, table tennis even and then we've even got some workshops and courses, like languages. So, that would include Italian, French, Spanish, we've got art studios, music programs."

Kern said adults can register at www.sarnia.ca/RecRegistration or people can call the Strangway Centre at 519-332-0656 for more information.

"This is adult programming and then parks and rec is also offering programs for children and families. So, we do have some programs coming up in September and October, even to do with environmental workshops at Canatara Park, so we're trying to capture all of those different age groups, but we do have a lot of programming available for adults."

Kern said most of their programs are very popular and registration fills up quickly, but they try to keep wait lists to accommodate people when more classes are added.
