A local firefighter is aiming to ride his bicycle 1,250 kilometres during the month of August in support of the fight against kids' cancer.
Sarnia Fire Prevention Officer Roel Bus is once again doing the Great Cycle Challenge and is one of nearly 150 local riders taking part.
He said he's well on his way toward his $2,500 goal.
"I'm actually almost there, and hopefully we can exceed that this year which would be great," said Bus. "For riding, the weather has been great, I've ridden about 730 km so far. There are still two weeks to go, so it's going very well."
Bus said it's a worthwhile cause.
"I don't personally have any experience with childhood cancer, fortunately, but reading the stories just tugs at your heartstrings. Any little thing that you can do to help these kids would be great."
Over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer each year, making it the deadliest disease amongst children in Canada.
On Friday, August 19, Bus will be at Refined Fool on Davis Street, riding his stationary trainer.
He'll be there from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., collecting donations, with the goal of riding at least 100 km.
Since 2016, Bus has raised over $10,000 while riding about 4,500 km.
