Procor Limited has been fined in connection with an incident nearly three years ago that saw local residents complaining about a strong, sickening odour.
Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks Spokesperson Gary Wheeler said the Sarnia company was fined $105,000 under the Environmental Protection Act for discharging, causing or permitting the discharge of a contaminant into the natural environment, which caused or was likely to cause an adverse effect.
On September 4, 2019, a foul odour in the southeast part of the city resulted in a handful of complaints to the ministry.
It was determined Procor had an incident while cleaning a rail car, and a mixture of residual butyl acrylate and steam was released into the air.
The company has 60 days to pay the fine, as well as a victim fine surcharge of $26,250.
