Nomination window closing for fall municipal election

Candidates looking to run in the municipal election this fall have until Friday at 2 p.m. to file their nomination papers.

By Monday morning, six people had submitted their names for one of four Sarnia city/county councillor positions.

Incumbent city/county councillors Mike Stark, Margaret Bird and Brian White are seeking re-election, while incumbent city councillor Bill Dennis is interested in taking on additional duties at the county level.

Former city/county councillor Andy Bruziewicz, who wasn't re-elected in 2018, would like to return to the role and Chrissy McRoberts is seeking her first term in office.

The competition is much more stiff for one of four city councillor positions, where 14 individuals have submitted nomination papers. City councillors George Vandenberg and Terry Burrell are seeking re-election.

Incumbent city/county councillor Dave Boushy and city councillor Nathan Colquhoun have yet to declare their intentions.

No one had filed nomination papers for the position of Sarnia mayor by Monday morning. In the past, longtime mayor Mike Bradley has declared his intentions closer to the deadline.

Voters will also select trustees for the French, and English, public, and separate school boards during the Monday, October 24 vote.

The unofficial list of candidates can be viewed here.

Paper ballots will be available on voting day and an internet voting period will be held from October 14 to 24.

The next term of office will run from November 15, 2022 to November 14, 2026.
