Environmental award presented to area student

A graduating student from Seaforth with plans to pursue environmental studies at Lambton College has won an award from the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation.

Kirsten McIntosh was recently presented this past week with a $1,000 Student Environmental Award.

The conservation authority said McIntosh is enrolled in the Environmental Technician Water and Wastewater System Operations program at Lambton College in Sarnia.

McIntosh had also previously completed a co-op placement with the Municipality of Central Huron in the Water and Wastewater Department, volunteered at the Lake Huron Coastal Centre, and spent three summers helping with Summer Nature Day Camps hosted by the Ausable Bayfield Conservation.

“Working with staff and students made me want to learn more and do more to protect our local environment,” she said in a statement.

The Student Environmental Award has been presented to graduating students since 2010 and McIntosh is the eleventh local student to receive the award.

Funding for the award was made possible through community fundraising and donations.
