Suspect steals Canadian flag, attacks homeowner

A 30-year-old Sarnia woman faces theft and assault charges following an incident near Queen and Devine Streets on Friday, August 5.

Sarnia police said the suspect walked up to the porch of a home, took a Canadian flag, and walked away with it.

The homeowner and a family member saw the theft and followed the accused who was acting erratically. It's alleged the suspect ran at the victims holding a needle in her hand and swinging it at them. The victims immediately attempted to flee the area and return to their residence.

Police said the accused also hit the victims with rocks and swung a stick at them but didn't strike them.

The woman then went to the backyard of another residence and began interacting with dogs in the backyard. When the homeowner asked the accused to leave, she reached over the fence and grabbed a cup of coffee the complainant was drinking and then threw it at them.

Police were contacted and took the suspect into custody without further incident.

Kelsey Lynn Saar, 30, of Sarnia, is charged with theft under $5,000, and three counts of assault with a weapon. She was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.

Sarnia police are reminding the public to be safe when confronting someone. It is recommended that you instead contact the police.
