About 100 firefighters from across the region are set to take part in the FireFit challenge at Lambton College this weekend.
Organizer Shane Bettridge said the three day event kicks off with a corporate challenge Friday evening.
"Teams from Sarnia Sting, Kelgor, Refined Fool and Cross Works Physiotherapy will be competing," said Bettridge. "They're not fully geared up, but they do the exact same race that our competitors do."
Organizer and Lambton College FireFit team Coach Sue Patrick said the course starts with competitors, in full gear, climbing six flights of stairs to the top of a 60 foot tower.
"When they get to the top, they're going to hoist a 42 pound bundle of hose to the top, put it in a box, they race down the stairs and they hit what's called a Keiser Force Machine to simulate axing or chopping," said Patrick. "They're then going to run around some pylons, they're going to run a straight run with a charged hose and hit a target with the water and then at the very end when they're completely crushed and have no energy left, they're going to drag 175 pound mannequin 100 feet to the finish line."
Patrick said the event is free, and open to the public.
"If you have kids that are interested in firefighting, or just want to see something very different, it's just mind-blowing how these athletes are able to complete this course," said Patrick.
Friday's events are on 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Individual races are on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the relays are set for Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
