Non-profits team up to create children's book

A new initiative aims to support local charitable organizations and teach children about the different career options in Sarnia-Lambton.

Noelle’s Gift to Children and the Hashtag Charitable Foundation (#charitable) have partnered together to create a local children's book.

"The book will follow a local student who is out to discover all the ways they can grow up to become a smash hit," read a media release. "The professionals they encounter will be real Sarnia-Lambton residents."

Executive Director of #charitable Rich Bouchard told Sarnia News Today that the idea came to him from a book he read as a child and kept within the family.

"I just thought, 'hey, why don't we just make a more localized version of this as opposed to a generic version? See if we can get some different sponsors to basically sponsor their page or pages.'"

Bouchard said they're currently in the process of talking to businesses and hope to secure sponsorships within the next six to eight weeks. Packages start at $2,500.

The 32-page book will be compiled with help from a local artist and writer. Bouchard said the goal is to have the book completed by the end of the year.

Sponsors will receive a certain amount of copies (as specified in their package) and 5,000 copies will be given to students through the Sarnia-Lambton school boards.

"Supporting children is at the heart of all that we do, and inspiring them is an important part of that. Creating a children’s book has been a project we’ve discussed for many years and we are excited to get it into motion,” said Chairperson of Noelle’s Gift Lynn Paquette in a statement.

The money raised from the sale of the books will support programming provided by Noelle’s Gift and #charitable.

For those unfamiliar with #charitable, Bouchard said it's a citizen-led charity that supports not-for-profit organizations.
