City council to vote on official plan

A five-year-strategy for the city of Sarnia will go before council on Monday for approval.

Councillors approved the official plan in principle last month.

Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley said the next step is to send the plan to the county.

"The county will make judgments on whether they accept it, or they modify it or they reject it," said Bradley. "From my point of view, I simply, after all the consultations, all the discussions, that at least it's moving forward. And so, for the new council in the coming years, they will have a document that has gone through a full public process and then they'll have to start to deal with the issues of servicing and infrastructure, costs and all those things."

Bradley said the five-year-plan was developed with lots of public input. "Of all the official plans that I've been involved with over the years, this is the one that has brought the most interest and it's because the community is in a great growth mode, and we need to get it right."

Also on the agenda, tender for construction of a skateboard park at Tecumseh park, revised entrance sign designs and waterfront letter sign concept.

City council meets at 1 p.m. on Monday.
