Environment Canada investigating storm damage in Thedford

Environment Canada is looking into a possible tornado in north Lambton.

Meteorologist Gerald Cheng said a line of severe thunderstorms late Wednesday afternoon resulted in damage in parts of Lambton County, particularly in Thedford.

"What we've heard so far is that some trees are downed, a barn roof removed and tossed, plus possibly another roof torn off," said Cheng. "We also saw another barn collapse and we got all that on social media."

He said so far, there hasn't been much damage reported in other parts of the county.

"We do encourage people to upload pictures onto Twitter with the hashtag ONstorm, so that we can see, or if people like to send reports to us privately they can do so as well, onstorm@ec.gc.ca."

Cheng said the national weather agency is collaborating with the Northern Tornadoes Project from Western University.

"We are still gathering reports," he said. "This is certainly the time, the season for thunderstorms and we know that thunderstorms can cause damage and sometimes they can be deadly."

Bluewater Power and Hydro One crews were also kept busy with outages from the storms, including downed power lines and trees.

Severe thunderstorms, tornado watches and warnings were all lifted before 8:30 p.m.
