UPDATE: Wednesday thunderstorms prompt brief tornado warning

Environment Canada issued a number of severe weather warnings and watches in Sarnia-Lambton on Wednesday.

The main threats during Wednesday's storm events were said to have been damaging wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h and nickel to toonie size hail.

Environment Canada issued a brief tornado warning for Watford, Pinery Park and Eastern Lambton County on Wednesday afternoon.

The national weather agency posted the warning at around 4:45 p.m. after a watch was put into effect at around 12:15 p.m. The warning was then lifted at around 5:20 p.m.

Both the tornado watch and thunderstorm warning was lifted at around 8:20 p.m. A heat warning remains in place likely for the rest of the week

Environment Canada said in the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is recommended you take the following actions: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.

Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
