Ride of Respect planned through Sarnia Saturday

A formation of motorcycles is expected to weave through Sarnia for the third annual Ride of Respect on Saturday.

Organizer Dave Burrows said 125 motorcycles took part in the inaugural event in May 2020 to show respect to frontline workers.

"Several motorcycle enthusiasts will once again be riding through the city of Sarnia, to say thank you to the many frontline workers including, police, fire, EMS, healthcare workers and so many others in our community," said Burrows.

Participants are asked to start gathering at Preferred Towing, at 46 Indian Rd. S., at 11:30 a.m.

"All motorcycle riders are welcome as is anyone wanting to come by and check out the motorcycles. The ride will begin at 1 p.m. and is an 83 [kilometre] tour through the city of Sarnia as well as Bright’s Grove and then finish at London Line Burger."

Burrows said the bikes will also drive past the Aamjiwnaang band office on Tashmoo Avenue and down the St. Clair Parkway to "give respect to the loss of Indigenous children and their families."

He said the ride will also serve as a safety reminder to other motorists that motorcycles are on the road and extra care should be taken when driving.

Burrows said donations will be collected from the riders and all proceeds will be presented to Ohana Landing, a youth transitional housing facility in Sarnia.
