Security upgrades recommended for Tecumseh Park

Security upgrades are recommended at a popular Sarnia park that is in the midst of significant improvements.

Council will consider directing staff to re-allocate funding to pay for proper infrastructure Monday.

Mayor Mike Bradley said the city is spending a lot of money to upgrade Tecumseh Park and wants to protect its investment.

"There have been ongoing issues there with graffiti, and I've been dealing with neighbours that have had issues with disruptions in the park that are taking away their quiet enjoyment of their own homes and that has become a police matter on a number of occasions," said Bradley. "So, I welcome the increased security."

Bradley admits that it's sad it has to be done.

"Often when the city invests in new projects, or renews one like this, it does attract graffiti and other types of vandalism and we're determined in this case not to have that happen here."

Fences have been removed from around the existing splash pad, the children's playground is being upgraded and a new skate park is planned.

In March, Sarnia police launched an investigation after the Cox Youth Centre at the park was targeted by vandals.
