Construction is expected to begin this summer on a roundabout in Warwick Township.
The roundabout will be built at the intersection of Egremont Road and Nauvoo Road.
Lambton County Council on Wednesday voted against a staff recommendation to delay the project to 2023.
Warwick Township Mayor Jackie Rombouts said it's a safety issue in her community.
"One that is very close to my heart," said Rombouts. One of our councillor's families, along with my daughter, were in an accident at that intersection. So, this is happening, it happens two or three times a year, if not more. It is a very serious issue in our community."
She said delaying the project isn't an option.
"I very, very often have had people, they're very aggressive, they're trying to get out to the lake, especially this time of year," she said. "That's a very, very busy highway and they're not expecting a stop sign to be there. There's obviously safety concerns, we have already announced this as a budgeted item for the county in our municipality with great response."
The majority of county council voted in favour of using reserve funds to cover the additional cost of the project, originally budgeted at $2 million.
Staff said the roundabout will cost about $1.2 million more than expected.
