Toronto man wanted on drug trafficking, weapons charges

Sarnia police are looking for a Toronto man accused of stashing fentanyl and a loaded gun in a secret compartment in his vehicle.

The service's vice unit was investigating an out-of-town suspect believed to be trafficking fentanyl in Sarnia, when officers spotted his vehicle in the city at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11.

Police said when the man returned to the vehicle in a parking lot on London Road near Modeland Road, the suspect noticed police and ran away from the area.

Cst. John Sottosanti said officers caught up to the suspect and placed him under arrest without incident.

During a search of the accused, police located $3,795 in currency and no drugs. As a result, the man was released, but the vehicle was held.

Cst. Sottosanti said after obtaining a warrant to search the vehicle, officers located a trap door in the car that covered a hidden compartment. Within the compartment was a loaded 40-calibre Glock 23 handgun along with ammunition, and 58 grams of purple fentanyl with a street value of $11,600.

As a result of the evidence, 37-year-old Cheddi Emile Morris, AKA Coco has an outstanding warrant and is wanted on the following charges:

1. Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking 2. Careless storage of a firearm 3. Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose 4. Unauthorized possession of a firearm 5. Unauthorized possession of a weapon 6. Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm 7. Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm 8. Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition 9. Two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order
