Salmon Derby returns with a splash

Over 1,000 fish were entered in the 46th annual Bluewater Anglers Salmon Derby.

Anglers had sunny skies Sunday, the event's final day, which saw 19 fish entered in Sarnia and 68 in Port Franks for a 10-day total of 1,087.

The event is the Bluewater Anglers largest fundraiser of the year and money raised will support hatchery operations.

The unofficial winners are:

Ken McColl of Grand Bend in the Salmon category with a 18.63 lb. Salmon.

Larry Wellington of Forest in the Trout-Boat category with a 11.80 lb. Rainbow Trout.

Richard Lapish of Sarnia in the Trout-Shore category with a 10.31 lb. Rainbow Trout.

Charlie Poore of Parkhill in the Lake Trout category with a 18.32 lb. Lake Trout.

Derek Samson of Corunna in the Walleye category with a 10.57 lb. Walleye.

Owen Huber is the Kids Big Fish Leader-Boat with a 17.81 lb. Lake Trout.

The results are unofficial.

The awards will be handed out at the Point Edward Optimist Hall on May 17 at 7:30 p.m.
