Funds stream in during canoe, kayak race

The cloudy skies and possibility of rain did not stop over 70 canoe and kayak enthusiasts from grabbing their paddles for the Sydenham River Canoe and Kayak Race.

St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) and its foundation held the event on Sunday, May 1. It was the first time the race was held since 2017.

“We are so happy that the event could go forward this year,” said Race Coordinator and Conservation Education Coordinator Melissa Levi. “It was a great day, and I think everyone enjoyed getting out on the water.”

SCRCA Manager of Communications Donna Blue the rain held off for the event.

Over $5,000 was raised for conservation education programs provided through the SCRCA. Emery Huszka and Jerry Fiddler raised the most and were presented with an award.
