UPDATE: Sting welcome 16 prospects through OHL draft

The Sarnia Sting are welcoming 16 prospects to the organization following the Ontario Hockey League draft, held Friday and Saturday.
The Sting made three picks on Friday and another 13 during the day Saturday.
With the fifth overall pick, the Sting selected right winger Porter Martone from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens U16 AAA team. In 53 games played this past season, the 15-year-old Peterborough native scored 41 goals and added 63 assists for 104 points.
According to the OHL scouting report: “Porter plays a heavy game and is the type of player you win with. He can play any style you want and has a very gritty and competitive side to his game, but has also scored some highlight reel goals. His skating is good, but he could improve on his ten-foot game. Puck skills and his shot and release are in a league of their own. He shoots the puck better than a lot of junior players already. Porter is a high-end prospect that will make an impact at the next level.”
Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said the team is thrilled to bring Martone aboard.
“Porter is a dynamic forward, with a combination of skill, compete, and goal scoring. We also love his character. He’s an outstanding teammate and someone we know will put the work in to become an impressive player in this league for years to come.”
Sarnia didn’t have a second round pick, but chose centre Sean Doherty (Ajax-Pickering Raiders U16 AAA) and defenceman Carson Campbell (Quinte Red Devils U16 AAA) in the third round.
Doherty had 21 goals and 14 assists in 26 games, while Campbell picked up three goals and 11 helpers in 26 contests.
The OHL scouting report on Doherty said: “Sean is a skilled offensive player that drives his team and is one of the big reasons they have had success this season. He is more of a pass first type of player that sees the ice extremely well, is very creative with the puck and plays an unselfish style of game. He isn’t the biggest player out there, but he isn’t shy to battle for loose pucks in all three zones. He logs a ton of minutes for his team and is used in every situation. Sean is definitely a player that will excite OHL fans in the near future.”
Sting Director of Player Personnel Kyle Craner described Campbell as a “pass first defenceman who we see excelling at moving the puck out of his own zone to the forwards in transition. He is also comfortable moving along the offensive blue line and plays a heads-up style. We look forward to seeing him progress in Sarnia.”
Lambton Jr. Sting defenceman Josh Glavin was taken in the third round by the Saginaw Spirit. He had 18 points in 27 games with the Jr. Sting and also scored twice and added four assists over 10 games with the GOJHL’s Sarnia Legionnaires. Lambton Jr. Sting goaltender Hayden Duncan was selected in the sixth round by the Ottawa 67’s.
