Stunt driver clocked at 102 km/h in a 50 zone

Sarnia police nabbed a driver going over twice the speed limit Wednesday morning.

Shortly before 10 a.m., an officer conducting radar in the area of Vidal Street and St. Clair Street observed a vehicle travelling at 102 kilometres an hour in a posted 50 zone.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which allegedly continued at a high rate of speed and ran a stop sign.  Police said the driver then lost control and struck a curb, damaging the vehicle and causing it to be inoperable.

A 25-year-old from Courtright was arrested and charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, driving while under suspension and racing a motor vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
