Suncor Energy has started marketing the sale of the Adelaide Wind Farm near Strathroy.
The Calgary-based energy company announced in early April it was divesting its wind and solar assets to strengthen its focus on hydrogen and renewable fuels and accelerate its work to become a net-zero company by 2050.
Communications Advisor Jessica Depencier told Sarnia News Today that many of the details related to the divestiture process are confidential.
"However, I can share that the marketing process has begun," Depencier said in an email. "The formal sales process has a few phases. We anticipate closing will occur in early 2023, but that may change as the process unfolds."
The wind farm, which is located on privately owned lands in Adelaide-Metcalfe, has been in operation since 2015.
It is jointly owned with Aamjiwnaang First Nation and includes 18 turbines, meteorological towers, an electrical collection system, a substation and turbine access roads.
"We have informed our joint venture partners, including Aamjiwnaang First Nation, and will continue to work with them business as usual," Depencier said.
Aamjiwnaang First Nation has a 25 per cent interest in the development.
Sarnia News Today reached out to Aamjiwnaang Chief Chris Plain for comment on the planned sale, but a response has yet to be received.
The Adelaide Wind Farm was the only wind asset in Ontario that Suncor was still operating.
Suncor Energy partnered with NextEra Energy Canada in early 2015 to build Lambton County's Cedar Point II wind project.
46 turbines were erected in Lambton Shores, Warwick Township and Plympton-Wyoming.
Suncor sold its interest in the 50-MW project in 2017 and it is now operated by a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Canada.
Suncor was also working on plans in 2015 for a 60-MW project in Brooke-Alvinston and Warwick townships, but that development never materialized.
The Nauvoo Wind Power Project would have covered a wide area of Warwick, extending south into Brooke-Alvinston to Petrolia Line.
