One dead after canoe capsizes in Lake Huron

One person has died after a canoe capsized in Lake Huron Wednesday morning.

Lambton OPP said they were contacted about an overturned canoe near Ipperwash beach just after 11 a.m.

OPP, Lambton EMS and members of the Kettle and Stony Point Fire Department, Lambton Shores Fire and Emergency Services, Canadian Coast Guard, United States Coast Guard and members of the community responded to help the two occupants who were seen in the water.

Constable Jamie Bydeley said both individuals were pulled from the water and transported to hospital.

"One of the individuals is in serious, but stable condition," he said. "The other individual was pronounced deceased at hospital."

Bydeley said the identities of the individuals are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
