Spirit rally for 9-8 overtime win over Sting

It was a wild game at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia Friday night as the Saginaw Spirit rallied with six goals in the third period to edge the Sarnia Sting 9-8 in overtime.

Sarnia led 2-1 after the opening period with goals from Angus MacDonell and Chandler Romeo before Saginaw's Mitchell Smith scored.

The Spirit's Josh Bloom tied the game 54 seconds into the second period.

That was followed by Sting goals from MacDonell, his second on a penalty shot, and Nolan Dann and Ty Voit giving Sarnia a 5-2 lead heading into the final period.

Dalton Duhart tallied in the first minute for the Spirt before Nolan DeGurse scored to regain Sarnia's three goal lead.

The Sting would make it 8-3 on goals from MacDonell, his third, and Easton Wainwright before the Spirit would mount the comeback.

Mitchell Smith, Dean Loukas and Pavel Mintyukov would score for Saginaw followed Duhart,with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker.

Duhart sored the overtime winner, his fourth goal of the game, with ten seconds left in overtime.

Sarnia goalie Benjamin Goudreau made 33 saves while Saginaw goaltender Brett Fullerton stopped 23 shots.

The Sting visit Owen Sound Saturday night with the pregame show starting at 7:00 p.m. on 103.9 FM - 1070 AM CHOK.
