Organizers excited to bring back Race to Erase fundraiser

Race to Erase, an annual fundraiser which supports several charities in Sarnia-Lambton, will return this spring for its 14th year.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 28.

Co-founder Rich Bouchard said he's excited for it to return following a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We're super excited to be running the event again this year," said Bouchard. "We haven't since 2019 so we're itching to get back to hosting this event in Sarnia-Lambton."

The 2019 event raised about $43,000. Bouchard said it would be "wonderful" if this year's fundraiser matched or exceeded 2019's total.

Race to Erase involves teams of four travelling to different locations to complete challenges. As it highlights different businesses and organizations, the fundraiser supports various local charities.

Those benefiting through this year's event include Inn of the Good Shepherd, Literacy Lambton, Noelle's Gift, Pathways Health Centre for Children, River City Vineyard, St. Clair Child and Youth Services, SWONT Conductive Education Trust Fund, and Women's Interval Home of Sarnia-Lambton.

"It's an event where we have lots of participants compete year in and year out and it'll be nice to see all of those folks again," he said.

Bouchard said roughly 40 to 42 teams signed up for past fundraisers, based on the last three to four years.

Since the event was first held in 2006, Race to Erase has raised over $700,000 in Sarnia-Lambton, London, and Cambridge. Bouchard started the event with fellow co-founder Scott McKay.
