Penguins pop up at popular park

Penguins have been popping up in downtown Sarnia.

In an effort to brighten people's day, Blackburn Media Reporter Melanie Irwin has been placing snow penguins on neighbours lawns and in public places for everyone to see.

Irwin said she and her family while out tobogganing over the weekend at the popular park, decided to share their little friend with the community. She said her goal was to put a smile on people's faces after what has been a difficult January for many.

“The snow wasn’t really packing snow, so it was a bit tricky,” Irwin said. “But, we managed to make about a dozen penguins and left them in the flower planters and some other spots.”

The little snow creatures have become popular with residents out for a walk along Sarnia's waterfront and Centennial Park, and pictures of the penguins posted on social media have been shared by hundreds with the hashtag #penguinsforpositivity.

“People love them! If little snow penguins can bring some positivity and peace, then my family has accomplished our mission.”

Irwin said the response has been really great and she’s hoping it inspires others to do the same.
