Second victim in Sarnia-area homicide identified

The second victim of an ongoing homicide investigation in Enniskillen Township and Sarnia has been identified as an 18-year-old from Ajax.

Human remains were found on December 28, 2021, after members of Lambton OPP were called about a suspicious person on Crooked Road in Enniskillen. A separate location on Watson Street in Sarnia was later identified in connection to the investigation.

OPP have now identified the second victim, found in Enniskillen Township, as Jelani Byer-Coates. Provincial police previously identified the other victim as 31-year-old Lance Richardson of Mississauga.

Cst. Jamie Bydeley said he believes an exact cause of death is not yet known.

Matthew Theriault, 42, of Sarnia was charged with two counts of second-degree murder along with two counts of committing indignity to a dead body. Bydeley said the accused remains in police custody.

The investigation is being conducted under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in partnership with Sarnia Police Service, the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario, and Ontario Forensic Pathology Services.
