Sting lose in shootout against Attack

It wasn't the outcome the Sarnia Sting hoped for heading into a weekend series against Owen Sound, but Sting players agreed they "played hard" following a shootout loss Friday night.

Sarnia lost to Owen Sound at Progressive Auto Sales Arena 4-3 in a shootout.

The Attack came in strong with two goals in the first and second periods.

Ty Voit scored Sarnia's first goal of the night with a short-handed assist from Nolan Burke. Voit and Burke each scored goals in the third period.

However, Owen Sound tied things up which lead to the game going into overtime and then a shootout. Benjamin Gaudreau was in net for Sarnia.

The Sting ended the game with one point.

In a post-game interview, Nolan Dillingham said he thought the Sting played well against a tough opponent.

"It was one of those games where we battled hard, we played hard... they're a hard team to play against. They always finish our checks and they have a good forecheck," said Dillingham. "I think we did what we needed to do. Sometimes you play well and you just don't get the result you want."

Angus Macdonell agreed although the Sting didn't win, it was "fun" to see his teammates involved in a shootout.

"The thing about shootouts is it doesn't reflect on the game, it can go either way," Macdonell said. "Tonight we played a really hard game and we didn't get the result we liked but we have a lot of great players who can put the puck in the net in situations like that."

The Sarnia Sting will play Owen Sound again on Sunday at Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m.

As always, you can hear all of the action live with Leigh Cunningham and Patrick DesRochers on 103.9FM and 1070AM CHOK.
