Imperial Theatre’s last 50/50 draw of 2021 paid off big for a registered nurse.

Celeste Vaillancourt won $184,500 in December’s 50/50 draw.

Vaillancourt is a registered nurse at Victoria Hospital in London.

She said the win was a great way to begin 2022, adding she has attended Sarnia’s theatre since she was a little girl.┬áVaillancourt said she plans to use her winnings to pay off her car, put some money down on her mortgage, and pay for her Masters degree.

As of January 3, the theatre has given away almost $2 million in prizes. This month’s draw has already raised over $6,500.

Money raised through the ongoing 50/50 fundraiser has allowed the theatre to complete capital projects that were planned prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are able to complete renovating the men’s washroom in the main lobby, and upgrade all of the amenities in the upstairs washrooms. Other projects such as the [fifth] and final phase of the roof replacement will be completed soon,” read a media release. “The draws have also allowed the theatre to upgrade the auditorium including new seats, fresh paint on the walls, a new floor, and a state-of-the-art PA speaker system.”

The December draw, in particular, helped fund the replacement of the 27-year-old main doors and the creation of a dedicated youth space for the Theatre Sarnia Youth Group and other community youth engagement groups. Construction is expected to be done over the next 12 weeks.

The goal with January’s draw is to raise enough funds to help upgrade theatrical lighting equipment, enhance the orchestra pit, and fund other physical upgrades.
