OPP K9 helps in 'another successful track'

A member of the OPP's Canine Unit may be in line for extra treats after helping police track drown a suspect on Walpole Island First Nation.

Members of the Walpole Island Police Service and Lambton OPP were contacted about a stolen vehicle Tuesday afternoon. The vehicle in question was reportedly seen travelling on Altiman Road near River Road.

Police said someone was seen running from the vehicle into a nearby bush lot. A general service dog, Blitz, helped police find a suspect at a vacant property.

A 38-year-old Walpole Island man was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, and break and enter a dwelling.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
