Grand Bend developments accelerated with hopes of summer 2022 opening

The landscape of Grand Bend's main strip is about to change once again.

JK Development Managing Partner John Knifton said they're working with Copia Developments on two large projects.

"One is located at the top of Main Street, on the north side, just west of where the Colonial Hotel is located," Knifton said. "That project is going to be a three storey building with ground floor retail space and two floors of residential rental and/or condo units above that."

He said it will be called "The Carlyle."

"There will be a total of 22 residential units in that building and approximately 5,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor."

Knifton said the second project will see the redevelopment of the former Coco's bar, restaurant and hotel.

"We finished demolition on the former Coco's site approximately two weeks ago, we're currently trucking away the construction debris and that project is also a three storey, mixed use building, with ground floor retail and two stories of residential above that."

Knifton said that building will be known as "The Tides" and have 20 units.

He said the projects reflect future plans for the Lake Huron resort community.

"The official plan for the Village of Grand Bend is that they want to see Grand Bend's Main Street more of a year round destination in terms of visitors and also people living there full time."

Construction of both projects is being accelerated with a hope of completion by June or July 2022.

"We plan on building all winter long. We've got a very aggressive time table. We've already demolished the buildings and we will be excavating for footings and foundations in December 2021 and you will start to see the buildings coming out of the ground in January, February of 2022."

In 2018, another three storey development was completed at the foot of Main Street.
