'Lightning' strikes as Sarnia man wins $457K

A Sarnia resident who randomly purchased a Lightning Lotto ticket is now a little richer after winning a total of $457,376.

The OLG said Linh Truong "was struck by Lightning" on November 26 after he won the top prize, which started at $125,000 and had grown.

Although Truong said he plays the lottery often, the ticket bought on November 26 was a random purchase.

"I bought my other tickets and had $4 left, so I figured I'd buy a Lightning Lotto ticket!" said Truong when he picked up his winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto on December 1.

The 63-year-old restaurant worker said his wife laughed and cried with excitement when he told her the news.

"My wife was surprised. I told her, 'Honey, our dream came true!’ and she was laughing and crying!"

Truong doesn't plan on retiring any time soon as he enjoys his job but said he plans to save his winnings for retirement.

"I will figure out what to do with it later on," he said.

"This is really exciting, and it will help a lot."

The winning ticket was purchased at Petro Canada on London Road in Sarnia.
