A goaltending prospect of the Sarnia Sting, and the first female ever drafted into the Ontario Hockey League, intends to continue the sport and her education down south.

Taya Currie has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey at Providence College in Rhode Island for 2023.

Currie, 16, made history in June when she was drafted by the Sting in the 14th round, 267th overall, of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection.

The Parkhill native took part in the Sting’s rookie camp back in August, and is currently playing for the Bluewater Hawks U22 AA of the Provincial Women’s Hockey League (PWHL).
