Sting to face Firebirds again following 6-3 loss

The Sarnia Sting have started a busy weekend on a sour note after losing to Flint Friday night 6-3.

The Firebirds came in strong with three goals in the first period and top of the second.

The Sting were able to make a comeback as Max Namestnikov scored Sarnia's first goal of the night in the second period with assists from Justin O'Donnell and Theo Hill.

Brayden Guy and Nolan Dann scored two more for the Sting.

However, during the third period, Flint scored three more goals to take the game.

In a post-game media conference, Sting Head Coach Alan Letang said the team started slow and although they made a push-back, too many opportunities were given up.

"To me it's disappointing. I think we gave them opportunities, we gave them goals. We talked about not giving teams anything for free... we gave them stuff for free [Friday night.]"

Letang said he felt the team played well at times for about 80 per cent of the game but didn't keep the same kind of momentum throughout the third period as they showed earlier.

"We've gotten better in the last little bit which is very promising and very positive but if we want to be a team that's [at] the top in our conference -- in the top five, top six -- those games, we have to close out with two points."

Letang said his message to the players ahead of Friday's game was "do not take this team lightly".

"We all know how hard this league is, we all know how tough this conference is -- especially this year. It's so much parody that you have to show up every night with the same attitude ready to play," he said.

The Sting have a chance to make a comeback against the Firebirds Saturday night. You can hear the action live on CHOK. Pregame coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.

The Sarnia Sting will be back on the ice Sunday as well to play the Soo Greyhounds.
