Weekly COVID incidence rate trending higher

Sarnia-Lambton's COVID incidence rate saw a spike last week.

On Wednesday, Lambton Public Health reported the rate of infection per 100,000 population increased to 35.1 for the week of November 14 to 20, from 29.8 the week before. The positivity rate was also higher at 2.7 per cent from 2.2 per cent.

The health unit reported five new cases of the virus, up to 4,328 confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic. The number of resolved cases increased by four to 4,218, resulting in 35 active cases.

There is one active outbreak, down from two on Tuesday.

Bluewater Health had five COVID-positive patients in hospital, up one.

Since the vaccine rollout started in late January the health unit said 195,781 doses of vaccine have been administered through Lambton Public Health, pharmacies, physicians and the hospital. To date, 81.7 per cent of eligible residents are fully vaccinated, while 84.4 per cent have had one shot.
