Municipal projects in Lambton County receive provincial funding

Lambton County communities are getting a combined total of over a million dollars for municipal projects.

MPP Monte McNaughton recently stopped in Newbury to announced over $2 million in funding to support projects in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. Investments are being made through the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

The funding is meant to support upgrades and repairs to fire stations, municipal buildings and washrooms, and athletics facilities such as the Watford Arena in Warwick, read a media release.

“The past year and a half have been particularly challenging for the municipalities in our riding,” said McNaughton in a statement. “That is why I’m so pleased to see both levels of governments taking steps to ensure we have the necessary infrastructure in place to ensure the people of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex are safe and can maintain both their physical and mental health.”

Through the investment, the County of Lambton will receive $401,000. Lambton Shores will receive $365,771, and Brooke-Alvinston, the Township of Warwick, and Dawn-Euphemia will each receive $100,000.

Lambton County Warden Kevin Marriott said funds were spent at Meadowview Villa in Petrolia, to purchase a chiller for $125,000 and $276,000 was spent for a retaining wall.

Middlesex communities to receive funding, as part of Friday's announcement, are listed below.

- Municipality of Middlesex Centre ($354,900)

- Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc ($221,098)

- County of Middlesex ($210,879)

- Township of Lucan Biddulph ($100,000)
