Sarnia Produce opens new retail store

The President of Sarnia Produce says he's been overwhelmed by the positive response to their new retail store.

Dean Troiani said they've been busy since opening the doors earlier this month.

"It's been crazy," he said. "We had a soft launch on a Tuesday night and then Wednesday was our day one and it just ballooned. We wanted a quiet opening, but there's no such thing as quiet openings anymore with social media and everything else. It's been a whirlwind."

Troiani said it's been so nice to show off the new building, which is much more spacious.

"It's a nice 11,000 square foot, modern building, designed specifically for produce and some side items. We're working with some great suppliers and have a lot of local content. That was one of the ideas that we had initially, was to showcase a lot of our own growers here in Lambton and some of the great suppliers that we have in this community."

Troiani said the wood fired pizza they make onsite has quickly become a stand out feature.

"I'd gotten this idea years ago while I was travelling in Europe, in Italy. Everything in Italy, a lot of the old culture, they cook with wood. So, a lot of the restaurants, it's all wood burning, and it's just a different type of cuisine."

Troiani believes their stone, wood burning pizza oven -- built from scratch -- is one of the first in Lambton County.

Troiani shares ownership of the business with his brother Mark.

The retail store is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Construction of the new retail store on Lite Street in Point Edward faced many delays due to pandemic related building material supply shortages.
