Supporting local with one click

Residents can shop local from their own home later this month during a virtual shopping event, featuring Petrolia merchants.

The Volunteer Business Group and Town of Petrolia are once again hosting an online shopping event on November 19 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Unlike last year, this year's virtual shopping haul will not be a ticketed event.

Organizer Denise Thibeault said the virtual shopping event launched last November as a way of helping local merchants during lockdown.

"Feedback from the last two events that were held were very favourable," she said. "The downtown businesses saw a total sales of over $10,000, which for a four hour event for the first Clickety Click event was amazing, we thought."

Thibeault said another virtual shopping event which lasted an entire weekend raised approximately $15,000 to $16,000 in total.

So far 27 merchants have signed up for the upcoming event and Thibeault said there is no cap on how many vendors can participate. Although the event is only open to Petrolia merchants to sell their items, anyone can shop online.

"It is an easy way to get some Holiday shopping done and show support for our merchants,” said Thibeault in a statement.

Shoppers can go to VisitPetrolia.ca and click the link for the “Shop Petrolia Online” store on November 19. Shoppers can choose in store pick-up or delivery options when purchasing items.
