Toys needed for 52nd Gift of Christmas campaign

For the 52nd year, CHOK will be collecting toys for the Salvation Army's Christmas hamper program.

It's the annual Gift of Christmas and the need this year appears to be greater.

Lieutenant Brad Webster said their phones started ringing earlier in the month from people needing some extra help.

"These families that have to make the decision between paying their rent and paying their bills, or putting a gift under the tree for their children, it's heart-wrenching to think that there might not be a Christmas this year," said Webster. "Thankfully, the community through the Gift of Christmas is enabling us to put those gifts under the tree for those families."

Toys can be dropped off at the Salvation Army at 970 Confederation Street or at Giant Tiger on London Road.

Webster said he expects at least 800 households will need help this holiday season.

Applications for Christmas hampers are being accepted now.
