Noelle's Gift supports healthy food for students

Noelle's Gift continues to make a lasting impact on the Sarnia-Lambton community.

The local children's charity has donated $23,511 toward the Student Nutrition Program.

County of Lambton Health Promotion Assistant Leslie Palimaka said the money is much-needed.

"The donation provided by Noelle's Gift will be used to support fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain and milk products in our 39 student nutrition programs in Lambton county that are currently feeding about 8,100 students."

Palimaka said the program receives provincial funding of 12 cents per student per day.

She said it costs an average of $1 per student per day to provide a healthy snack, and Noelle's Gift is really assisting in bridging that funding gap.

Since 2013, Noelle’s Gift has provided over $188,000 to the Student Nutrition Program for the purchase of healthy food.

Noelle’s Gift was established in memory of Noelle Paquette, a former kindergarten teacher with St. Clair Catholic District School Board, who was killed in January of 2013.

The charity has raised over $1.6 million since its inception.
