SMAA seeking volunteers for 2022 season

The Sarnia Minor Athletic Association (SMAA) is appealing for volunteers to help out with baseball, fastball and football.

SMAA is already eager to get the 2022 seasons up and running after the past two were cancelled due to COVID-19.

President Lynn Le Faive said they need anywhere from 30 to 60 volunteers for baseball alone, which typically attracts up to 800 players.

"We're looking for convenors, schedulers, coaches, assistant coaches, and equipment people that can help with these teams," said Le Faive. "It's not time consuming, it's not something that's going to take up three nights a week for someone and they're gone forever."

Registration starts in late January, and seasons are set to kick off in May.

Le Faive said while that might seem far away, there's a lot of organizing that goes on behind the scenes.

She said they have meetings planned on November 16 and December 14 at 7 p.m. at the Chaytor House in Germain Park.
