Trunk or Treat set to dish out carloads of candy

Halloween enthusiasts and candy lovers of all ages are invited to dress up and head to Canatara Park on October 30.

Sarnia Street Cruisers, a new group that aims to support local business, is hosting its first Trunk or Treat event at the park from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Spokesperson Houston Silverthorne said they're expecting thousands to attend.

"Oh my gosh, the response has been really incredible -- just knowing that we've heard our announcement on the radio station, and other businesses calling us and emailing us for support. We're actually overflowing with lots of tricks and treats right now for the kids... it's been overwhelming," he said. "I'm going to tell you right now, we're going to fill two pickup trucks [with candy]."

Silverthorne said anybody that wants to dress up is going to get some candy.

"Our car group just decided to extend our season by helping out the kids and the adults with Halloween and decorating our trunks and us also dressing up so that we can make the kids' Halloween a little bit better in our times that we're going through right now," he said. "We're going to try to have all of our cars parked in the second section at Canatara on the grass side and try to control some traffic and get the kids walking through safely."

This is Sarnia Street Cruisers second season. Silverthorne said new members are always welcome to join the group.
