A second Lambton County municipality has lifted its emergency declaration, which was implemented last year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lambton Shores officially lifted its state of emergency Friday evening. The state of emergency was first declared on March 18, 2020.
“When the state of emergency was originally declared, our community was facing many unknowns related to the threat of COVID-19,” said Mayor Bill Weber in a media release. “The Declaration of Emergency gave the Municipality the tools and resources needed to effectively deal with the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic.”
Now with mandates in place and public health indicators improving, it was deemed that the emergency declaration was no longer warranted.
However, Lambton Shores officials are asking residents to continue to follow public health measures.
“In no way does this decision mean the pandemic is over,” said Weber. “The threat of COVID-19 remains, but we are confident that the regulations and COVID-19 protocols now put in place by the province and health unit provide a safe framework to move forward. I could not be more proud of the way our community has supported the pandemic response since the beginning.”
Earlier this week, Warwick Township lifted its state of emergency.
The Province of Ontario lifted its declaration of emergency in June.
