Bluewater Health's helipad project clears another step

The construction timeline for Bluewater Health’s helipad project is on track following recent survey results.

Geo-technical surveys and soil sampling was done during this past summer.

Hospital Communications Chief Julia Oosterman said results came back fine and plans are still in place for demolition to start in the spring of 2022. The build portion of the project is expected to take place in the summer with a completion target set for the fall of 2022.

"With COVID and all of the general delays across the entire construction industry and everything that's going on, it probably wouldn't be unreasonable for [the timeline] to shift a bit but at this point, it looks like everything is good," said Oosterman. "The surveys have been contributing to the final design and our next steps are that the project will be tendered shortly and will be ready to fully commence this spring."

Oosterman said there were no particular concerns that the survey results would push back the timeline, it was just a step required for the helipad's placement and the outcome was anticipated.

Although construction won't start until next year, Bluewater Health has continued to receive community feedback about the project.

"We do continue with public engagement, as recently as [October 19]. We were chatting with some of the parents from Hanna Memorial," she said.

Oosterman said the next phase of community consultations will likely take place in the spring to provide an update on specific steps regarding the build portion of the project.
