Inquest called into death of Sarnia inmate

The Ministry of the Solicitor General has announced an inquest into the death of a 32-year-old Sarnia man will be held in November.

Aaron Moffatt died in hospital on February 3, 2018 after being transferred from the Sarnia Jail.

An inquest examining the events surrounding his death is now mandatory under the Coroners Act. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

It's expected to last five days and hear from approximately 11 witnesses.

The inquest will start at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2021. Dr. David Eden will preside as inquest officer and Andre Rajna will be the inquest counsel.

Moffatt was arrested on robbery charges in June of 2017 after a commercial property was held up in the 4000 block of St. Clair Parkway.
