Another COVID-related death reported at Bluewater Health

The COVID-19 death toll at Bluewater Health has climbed to 56.

The Sarnia hospital reported that the latest death linked to the virus was a local man, but his age was not disclosed.

There are four COVID-positive patients at Bluewater Health, down from six on Tuesday.

Lambton Public Health reported three new confirmed cases of the virus Wednesday and 14 resolved cases, dropping the number of active infections by 11 to 55.

There have been 4,158 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic and 4,033 cases have been deemed resolved.

There are three active school outbreaks, unchanged from Tuesday.

Nearly 80 per cent of eligible Sarnia-Lambton residents are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

In its daily update, Lambton Public Health reported that 79.8 per cent of those 12 and up have had two doses of a vaccine since the vaccination rollout began in late January. About 83.3 per cent have had one shot.

The local rate of infection per 100,000 increased slightly to 57.3 for the week of October 17 to 23, from 56.5 the week before. The positivity rate dropped to 3.8 per cent from 5.2 per cent.
