Sting host Guelph in lone weekend contest

There's just one game on tap for the Sarnia Sting (1-1-2-0) this weekend.

They're scheduled to host the Guelph Storm Friday night in Ontario Hockey League action.

Sarnia is coming off a 5-1 defeat in Kitchener last Friday followed up by a 5-4 overtime loss to London on Saturday. The Sting almost completed the home ice comeback Saturday after trailing 4-1 midway through the second period.

Head Coach Alan Letang said that gives the team something to build on.

"Guelph is going to come in, and they're a team that works hard," said Letang. "They're a team that keeps things very simple, they're not going to make too many mistakes, and they're going to rely on their structure. The biggest thing I've noticed on the tape is that they work and they compete. We need to bring that third period that we had against London on Saturday right from the drop of the puck."

Letang said they've been hard at work at practice.

"The schedule is very beneficial for us right now," he said. "We can use the time to work on a few things, obviously some special teams we want to work on. We need to work in general on showing these guys how hard we need to compete night in and night out."

Nolan Burke leads the way for the Sting with five goals, and Ty Voit has chipped in four points.

The Storm have played five contests this year, and sit at 1-3-1-0, good for third place in the Midwest division.

As always, you can hear this weekend's action live on CHOK with Leigh Cunningham and Patrick DesRochers.
