Annual United Way campaign marks milestone

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way Campaign is a third of the way there.

Executive Director Dave Brown said so far $580,000 has been raised, or 33 per cent of the $1.75 million goal, with 10 weeks still to go.

"Right now we're still pretty much on pace with last year," said Brown. "The biggest of our three largest campaigns is the only one that has reported so far, that being Imperial. Imperial employees are at 75 per cent of their employee campaign. The NOVA and the Shell campaigns have kicked off, but we don't have any of their figures in our total yet."

Brown said so far, over 1,300 donors have contributed to this year's fundraising effort.

"The majority of our donors have been through the mail, but there's a large number of them who have already reported pledging through the workplace," he said. "Although the percentage of online donors is small, it certainly has been growing a great deal year over year."

Brown said beginning Friday, Dattolo's Baked Goods on Confederation Street is donating $1 from every pizza sold until Halloween to the campaign. A month-long fundraiser is still underway at The Bagel Factory. Until the end of October, $1 from every dozen bagels sold will go to the campaign.

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton funds 20 agencies providing 40 programs and services to the community.
