Kel-Gor donation improves maternal infant care at Sarnia hospital

A local industrial contractor is giving back to help the youngest patients at Bluewater Health.

Kel-Gor Limited has donated $63,000 for the hospital's Maternal Infant Child Department.

Bluewater Health Foundation Executive Director Kathy Alexander said allocating funds for the department was a key area of interest for Kel-Gor.

"The generous donation is enabling us to buy two very much needed pieces of equipment that are very specialized when it comes to the birth experience for families and women at Bluewater Health," said Alexander. "They will be purchasing, and they've actually been ordered, we're thrilled that they're coming shortly, a new infant warmer and a fetal monitor."

Alexander said both the infant warmer and fetal monitor are often necessary following birth to provide respiratory support, maintain body temperature and monitor the baby's heart rate.

"These pieces of equipment are used consistently and regularly, so they're essential and thanks to the generosity of our community through donations, so Kel-Gor in this instance, radiant warmers are pieces of equipment that we've been able to upgrade consistently."

Over 1,000 babies are born at Bluewater Health every year.
