CN reports train derailment

The cause of an upright train derailment Sunday is under investigation.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. , CN Rail contacted Sarnia police dispatch and activated the CAER notification system, due to an upright train derailment leaking fuel in the area of St. Andrew Street and Scott Road.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue and Sarnia police attended the site and established a unified command with CN Rail.

The municipality notified the Provincial Spills Action Centre (SAC) and City of Sarnia.

Environmental Services are on scene for containment and removal of remaining diesel fuel from the fuel tank.

The derailment occurred on CN Rail property and no road closures were required.

There is no threat to the public or environment.

The city's Emergency Manager Ron Realsmith said CN Rail response staff continue to work at the scene and expect to be fully functioning later Monday.
